Current & Past > Almost Real

Azimuth Projects is pleased to present Almost Real, a two-person exhibition of photographic works by James Bellucci and Allison Grant, accompanied by the nail art of Naughty Nailz.

Almost Real explores concurrent possibilities and certainties found in the artifice processed by cultural and historic notions of landscape. Ideas of the constructed landscape and its push on authentic natural space are found in both Bellucci’s and Grant’s constructed photographic works. Bellucci plays with printed material and repetition of subject matter to string a striking narrative about the world’s creation. Grant works with the mechanics of the lens to further complicate a relationship between stock imagery and material that mimic landscape.

Bellucci received an MFA in photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York. He is currently based in South Bend, Indiana, serving as a research associate in photography in the Department of Art, Art History and Design at the University of Notre Dame. He is also an adjunct instructor at Indiana University South Bend.

Grant received an MFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago. She is an associate curator at the Museum of Contemporary Photography and currently teaches teach in the art and design department at Columbia

Join us on September 22nd from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. for photography, nail art, and beverages. Manicures by Naughty Nailz are $20 and inspired by the works of James Bellucci and Allison Grant.
